Growth performance and economics of feeding sole concentrate, sole forage and their mixtures to weaner rabbits

Replacement and supplementation of concentrate diets by forage is very promising in rabbit production since they are classified as pseudo-ruminants. The study assessed the performance economics feeding sole concentrate, their mixtures to weaner rabbits. control treatment (T1) was fed with simultaneously morning afternoon, Rabbits 2 (T2) received afternoon. 3 (T3) got diet Treatment 4 (T4) rabbits were given afternoon while those 5 (T5) morning/ Thirty (30) crossbreed (both sexes) an initial weight range 750-770 g divided into five groups six (5 males I female) each randomly assigned treatments a completely randomized design (CRD) having three replicates two 63-day trial. Data collected daily feed intake, weekly body weight, gain, conversion ratio (FCR) cost computed subjected Analysis Variance (ANOVA) using S.A.S (2002) software package. results revealed that on (T4), had significantly (p<0.05) higher final gain 2000, 1950g, 19000g 19.84g 19.21g, 19.05g respectively result further shows highest (P<0.05) intake (83.50g) among least (60.90g). T4 best terms FCR followed concentrate/forage mixture T3, T2, T1. show lowest N131.5 N378.86 recorded for T4. However, or about 49.17 16.83 percent reductions T2 -10.74 -46.43 additions per kg. Better returns investment noted T3. Profit gross margin better T3.For optimum economic returns, morning/forage recommended.
